__''An unexpected gift has made a GJP wish come true.''__ The French phrase cy pres (pronounced see-pray) means “as close as possible.” Loosely defined in the legal sense, it refers to distributing the proceeds of a class-action lawsuit to charity when some, or all, of the original claimants can’t be found. GJP received a cy pres award recently that will make a longstanding wish come true: now we can add another lawyer to our staff. ''Heartfelt thanks to Mike McGlamary, Herb Shellhouse and Judge Frank Jordan, Jr., for paving the way for this amazing gift.''
__''Does a special needs child belong in Youth Detention Center?''__ GJP is working, along with other organizations, to identify special needs children in Georgia's Youth Detention Centers who did not receive adequate legal representation. We are looking for appellate advocates who would take on these cases pro bono. ''Do you know a member of the Bar with appeal experience who would make a passionate pro bono advocate?'' Please contact Amy Vosburg at 404-827-0027, x13.
__Social Services__
__''Water balloons and hamburgers.''__ The biggest turnout ever—more than 100 GJP clients, families and friends—gathered recently for our annual picnic. A thousand thanks to Westminster Presbyterian Church volunteers for the good cheer and the great food. ''If your team, company or club would like to sponsor a GJP event, big or small, we would be thrilled.'' Call Julie Smith at 404-827-0027, x22.
__''Visiting every prison in Georgia.''__ Mark Roland, a Jesuit Volunteer who is beginning a year of service to GJP, will visit every incarcerated GJP client three times over the next 12 months. For some inmates, Mark will be the only visitor they ever see. He will also assist with post-prison transition for those without housing, I.D., clothing and other essentials. ''Contributions supporting this work are welcome and needed.'' Contact David Rocchio at 404-827-0027, x17.
''“An understanding heart is everything in a teacher.”'' Our thanks to two understanding hearts—substance abuse counselor Ricks Anderson and juvenile counselor Faheem Martin—for a year of service to GJP. Your work enriches our staff and clients alike.
__New Horizon Landscaping__
__''Deciduous shrubs, a dozen pairs of leather gloves, a lawnmower and a Toyota station wagon.''__ These are among the recent, and very welcome, gifts to New Horizon Landscaping. New Horizon is a springboard to employment for GJP clients moving into the job market. ''Your contributions of tools, equipment and healthy one-to-five-gallon plant material are accepted with joy.'' Contact David Rocchio at 404-827-0027, x17
__''Fall is the best season to plant trees, bushes and perennials.''__ If you’re longing for fall color, or your home or business landscapes need pruning, mowing and mulching, NHL provides lawn and garden services throughout metro Atlanta at competitive rates. Call Jeff Craven to schedule a no-cost consultation today: 404-827-9880.
__''Ziglor marks two milestones.''__ Bonner Ziglor, an NHL crewmember since 1998, has been accepted into Atlanta Metropolitan College and was married on August 23rd. Congratulations!

__''Thank you, thank you, thank you!''__ To __''King & Spalding''__ for generously donating $3300 in Denim Day proceeds to GJP (email david@gjp.org if you’d like to know more about this ingenious program), to __''Helen''__ and __''Clark Cunningham''__ for their gift of reliable transportation…to __''Starbucks''__ at The Peach shopping center in Buckhead for keeping us fueled with first-rate java, to the __''Net Impact Club''__ of the __''Goizueta Business School''__ for invaluable market analysis and planning for New Horizon Landscaping…to __''Reese Smith''__ for sharing experience that money cannot buy…to __''Michael Tabachnik''__ for thoughtful editorial expertise…to interns __''Tosha Downey''__ and __''Golda Fleischman''__ for vigorously and successfully representing GJP clients at recent hearings.

__''Goodbye and Godspeed''__ to Jesuit Volunteer Matt Vincel, whose “tour of duty” with GJP ended this summer. Our hearts go with you, Matt.
