Horace H. Sibley

Horace H. Sibley was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1939.  He received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1961; an L.L.B. in 1964 from the University of Georgia; and an M.B.A. from Georgia State University in 1971.  During the years 1965 through 1968 he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Infantry, where he received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.  Following his service for the United States, Mr. Sibley became an associate with the law firm of King & Spalding in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1968, and a partner in 1972.  He retired from King & Spalding in 2002.

Mr. Sibley currently serves as Chair of the United Way Regional Commission on Homelessness -- a unique regional collaboration of the City of Atlanta, the Counties of Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Rockdale, the State and Federal governments and the business and faith communities.  The goal of the Commission is to end chronic homelessness in 10 years.  Mr. Sibley has served on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations.  He was one of the original members of the group of Atlanta citizens who organized the effort to bring the 1996 Summer Olympics to Atlanta.  He was on the Executive Committee of the Atlanta Organizing Committee and Chairman of the International Affairs Committee.  He served as General Counsel to and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games -- the group that organized the Centennial Games.  He served as Chairman of the Board of the Children’s Research Center.  He is a past Chairman of the Board of the Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children and the Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology (GCATT); was a member of the Board of Trustees of Agnes Scott College for Women; a past Trustee of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals.  He was a founding member of the Board of the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, the Country’s largest telethon which supports children’s hospitals around the world.  He has been Chairman of the Board of Butler Street YMCA, President of the Board of Research Atlanta, a founding member and President of the Board of Interfaith, Inc., a non-profit housing corporation, Vice Chairman of the Board of Goodwill Industries, a member of the Board of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, a member of the Board of the Osmond Foundation, Vice President of the University of Georgia Alumni Society, member of the Alumni Board of Vanderbilt University, and President of the Atlanta Vanderbilt Alumni Association.  He has served on the Board of Trustees of Leadership Georgia and participated in the Leadership Atlanta program and the International Business Fellows Program.  He has served on the Board of the Woodruff Arts Center, the Carter Center Board of Advisors and the Commerce Club.  He currently serves on the Board of the Callaway Foundation, the Woodward Fund and EDC, Inc. -- a NASDAQ listed company where he is Chairman of the Governance Committee and served as a member of the Audit Committee.  He served on the Board of the Japan-American Society of Georgia.  He is listed in Who’s Who in America.  He is a past Director of the World Trade Club of Atlanta and is active in the Rotary Club of Atlanta.  He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

Mr. Sibley is married to the former Beverly Bryan and they have three children; Clare, 41; Holden, 35, and Eve, 33.
