New Horizon Landscaping
New Horizon Landscaping closes after 17 years of service to GJP clients and the Atlanta community
Effective January 14, 2011, Georgia Justice Project is no longer operating New Horizon Landscaping – the social venture that has been a source of job training and employment for numerous GJP clients over the last 17 years.
If you have been a friend of GJP for a long time, you know that this was a difficult decision for our leadership. The reasons for the decision were twofold:
1. Changes in the economy at large as well as in the landscaping/lawn service industry made it impossible to operate NHL profitably or even with an acceptable level of subsidy from GJP. We analyzed alternative models and scale for the business, but concluded that no alternatives were practical because they each would divert critical resources from other aspects of our core mission.
2. Our landscaping director resigned effective December 31, 2010, to move to Huntsville, Alabama, where his wife will become the Associate Provost at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
GJP remains committed to our core work on behalf of the poorest members of our community who are trying hard, against long odds, to get their lives back on track. We are certain that employment is central to our clients’ ability to be successful in moving on with their lives, and we will be working over the next few months to consider meaningful alternatives to NHL that can help them do just that.
Thank you for your continued support of our efforts.
