- Doug delivered the closing remarks for the annual Public Defender conference. He presented the Georgia Justice Project model as a viable solution to Maryland's search for a new approach to its public defender's office. Currently, they are preparing to launch a pilot program to reduce recidivism by aggressively addressing the civil legal problems that often confront criminal defendants. Maryland Public Defender

- Doug presented a workshop on law as a vehicle for social change. He presented the works of GJP in the context of reconstructing law as a nurturing field. Conference details
May 1 - Lecture at Whittier College, Los Angeles, CA
- Presentation focused on the reasons for Georgia Justice Project and how it has been successful in the achievement of its goals. The lecture also highlighted the need for similiar organizations to find roots in other cities.

*Doug presented Georgia Justice Project as a model to a possible solution in rectifying the criminal justice system. GJP is a grantee of the Racial Justice Collaborative through its partnership with other organizations in the ''Campaign for Juvenile Justice''. *Attended and presented at the international conference ''Relationships in Law: Is There a Place for Fraternity?'' sponsored by the Focolare Movement. Law professionals from all over the globe convened at Castelgandalfo, the Pope's summer residence, to continue the Focolare Movement's ''Communion and Law'' project. Lawyers discussed how to bring a sense of fraternity to their countries' legal systems and discussions focused both on this ideal and its practical application. View Image Gallery
__October 17__ ''Sentencing Workshop, Atlanta, GA''
*Presented ''Sentencing Advocacy and Alternatives to Incarceration'' at Georgia Public Defender Standards Council's Sentencing Workshop. This session examined the importance of preparing for sentencing early in the case. Doug advocated that lawyers should find prescriptions to the client's recovery and use those options as a way to be proactive in their case.
