ADDRESSING LEGAL RE-ENTRY NEEDS THROUGH PRO BONO
2 CLE Hours, 1 Professionalism Credit
Returning Citizens released from prison face significant legal barriers to successful reentry and a lack of access to legal services. This program will examine the unique role of Reentry Lawyering by providing background on the criminal justice system in Georgia, the civil and criminal legal barriers Returning Citizens face when returning to society, and the legal remedies for these barriers which include resolving active detainers, reinstating suspended driver’s licenses, modifying child support arrears, and expunging criminal records. It will conclude with available pro bono opportunities in Atlanta to engage in meaningful Reentry Lawyering on behalf of Returning Citizens.
