Cobb County Judge Grants Retroactive First Offender Status Under New Law

Cobb County Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard II granted a business owner, who had a prior drug conviction on his record, retroactive first offender status under Georgia’s new first offender law.  Georgia Justice Project made First Offender a top priority on our policy agenda during the 2015 legislative session.  

In the Daily Report, Judge Leonard states “Happy to do it in this case for someone who had done well in life and was being hampered by his old conviction for a nonviolent offense…the type of situation that the Legislature and the governor envisioned in their criminal justice reform efforts.”
