Lawyer VolunteersLawyers with experience in criminal defense are welcome to volunteer with the Georgia Justice Project. Whether it is by taking one case a year or consulting on major cases, lawyers who volunteer are guaranteed a rewarding experience. GJP can give lawyers many opportunities for court experience ranging from participating in a bond hearing to serving as co-counsel for an entire trial.
Volunteers provide integral support to the Georgia Justice Project while at the same time being exposed to many rewarding experiences. Volunteer opportunities at GJP depend on interest and credentials of the volunteer as well as current needs at GJP.
A variety of opportunities are available for individuals and groups. These include administrative support (answering phones, filing, fundraising projects), client support (tutoring, intake, transportation, special events) or assisting with other organizational needs. The Georgia Justice Project is a great place to learn about criminal defense, social work and social entrepreneurship while simultaneously helping out the community. Students can choose to intern over the course of a semester, during the summer, or year-round. GJP welcomes undergraduate and graduate students of all backgrounds to apply. Often internships at big firms involve work without any first-hand interactions with cases or clients. GJP law school interns are involved with cases from beginning to end: initial client interviews, writing and filing motions, investigating allegations, meetings with the District Attorneys, and for third-year law students, practicing law in real courts for real cases.
On top of legal duties, interns have the chance to work with clients in other contexts.

Undergraduate interns participate in the legal, social service, and development aspects of the organization. Undergraduate interns often assist in legal cases by interviewing potential clients and gathering police reports. The interns may also be involved in the social service work with clients This could include assisting clients with employment related searches and tutoring clients. In addition, interns will work on development/fundrasing related projects for the organization. This could include grant research and writing, website development and other fundraising campaigns and materials.
