Pathways Over Probation

Georgia leads the nation in the number of people on probation, and our probation sentences are some of the longest in the country. While many individuals transition to non-reporting probation after a few years, they remain legally on probation and continue to face barriers to jobs, housing, and stability.

But there is a pathway forward.

In 2021, Georgia Justice Project helped pass SB 105, a law that makes early termination of felony probation possible after just three years, if certain criteria are met. Since the law’s passage, over 20,000 Georgians have had their probation sentences ended early.

Now we’re launching the Pathways Over Probation campaign to raise awareness about this opportunity, and we need your help.

Here’s how you can support the campaign:

  • Spread the word. Request early termination posters and info cards.

  • Learn more. Stay tuned for details on our upcoming informational webinar in May.

  • Share online. Follow and repost our content on Instagram and Facebook.

  • Invite us in. We’re available to speak with your clients, staff, or community about probation early termination.

  • Collaborate with us. If you have other outreach ideas or want to partner with us, email ann@gjp.org and let us know!

  • Take a deeper dive. Educate yourself with this impactful webinar on how to navigate felony probation and how to seek early termination.
  • Check out the campaign launch video!

Special thanks to Women on the Rise for naming this impactful campaign!
