Incarceration and Child Support Debt – We Want to Hear From You!

Have you or someone you know been incarcerated for failure to pay child support?  Has mounting debt caused you to lose your job and ability to care for yourself and your kids?  We want to hear from you!

Georgia Justice Project is working to end this practice of debt-based imprisonment.  In Georgia, unpayable child support debt deepens and solidifies cycles of poverty and incarceration, barring people from employment and leaving children abandoned.

GJP wants to hear directly from people and families hurt because of child support debt, particularly mothers and fathers in jail or who have recently been jailed because of inability to pay.  Your voice matters, and your story will help us to change the law to end these cycles of poverty and imprisonment.

If you or someone you know is facing jail time or was recently jailed due to child support debt—either for contempt of court or driving with a license suspended because of child support debt—contact us ASAP.  Email Ross@GJP.org, or call (404) 827-0027, ext. 263.
